Dorian Yates, also known as Dorian Yates

Early years

Dorian Yates was born in the village of Hurley near the city of Birmingham. His mother was an equestrian instructor. When Dorian was thirteen years old, his father died of a heart attack. A year later, Dorian with his mother and sister moved to Birmingham . Dorian was arrested at the age of nineteen for participating in riots and sentenced to six months in detention at the Whatton Youth Detention Center, where he took up bodybuilding.

Bodybuilder career

After his release, the athlete began going to a small gym, and soon took part in the first competitions . In 1986, Dorian won the British Championship. A year later, he bought his own gym in England. In 1987, Dorian tore his thigh muscle and had to undergo surgery . In 1990, Yates left for New York to compete in the Night of Champions. Then, having received professional status in the International Federation of Bodybuilders (English International Federaion of BodyBuilders, IFBB), he took second place after Lee Haney in the competition "Mr. Olympia" in 1991. The next year he won this competition. In 1997, three weeks before the Mr. Olympia competition, Dorian tore the triceps on his left arm, but despite the injury, he won the competition for the sixth time. Since earlier he already had a biceps gap on the same arm, after this victory, Dorian Yates was forced to end his career as a bodybuilder.
